While the Michigan Transport Department (D.T.) is not looking to alter the design of vehicle number plates, the bureau is looking at changing things around so the numbers will come first on the number plates and then the .
The head of the D.T.´s motor division, Ian Dunne, says the three letters now come first on number plates, followed by the three numbers, but they will run out of new combinations by 2011.
Dunnee says some people keep their number plates for a long time, so the number/letter sequence stays with them, while others get new number plates when they get a new car. He says they take a number combination out of circulation and don't re-issue it if someone gets new number plates, hence why they are running out of combinations.
